Vernon Ross, deputy director of learning and development at Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMC), knows all too well the importance of distance learning. With over 140,000 employees, located in over 50 countries, ensuring that his colleagues have access to university-level courses is a monumental task. He said, “With employees dispersed around the globe, LMC believes that online learning offers a world of possibilities and promises to aid in the delivery of critical, strategic training to ensure that as an organization, we are well positioned to compete in a global marketplace with highly skilled employees.”

Ross is not the only one to embrace online degrees.

“Our research found that a majority of employers—more than 62 percent—have a favorable attitude toward online instruction, viewing the value of online learning as being equal to or greater than that of face-to-face instruction. We know that many online students are employer-supported, funding their online studies either in part or in full through tuition assistance programs.”

This is good news for all people planning to go in for online degrees.

Although Online learning is growing by leaps and bounds , it is still risky as many unaccredited universities and colleges are offering degrees which are worthless. These ‘Degree Mills’ or ‘Diploma Mills’ are flourishing while the unwary students get taken for a big ride.

DeVry reaches out to military veterans

DeVry plans to offer the college experience to the veterans.

As per Randy Plunket, national director of military affairs for DeVry, Representatives from the University, government agencies and student-veterans group will be taking part in the discussion and the ideas produced by the panel could be implemented as part of pilot program shortly.

DeVry has been working with veterans since the end of World War II. As veterans return from Iraq and Afghanistan, they will be able to go for college education , but with special needs.

DeVry offers a different environment than the normal colleges campuses, since the students are older, more focused and will be entering their chosen fields immediately after graduation.
